Idea Overview:
People connect through stories. However, it is challenging for parents to share stories about family members with their children between 3-8 years in busy day-to-day life. Children struggle to build a connection with family stories and the heritage of those who are not around them.
Kinity offers a simple-to-use online storyteller tool that creates children's books based on family stories and images of family members. The user answers a few questions, uploads photos, and the tool creates the illustrated story. After the optional editing, the user can print the story. It will be bound with a ring book binder, so the user can create more and more chapters of their family picture book.
Who might use it/where it might be used?:
Adult as creator
For aunts/uncles/grandparents of 3-8-year-old children who fear being a stranger to the child (e.g. due to living away or not being able to visit regularly), our venture Kinity will provide an easy-to-use tool to create personalized children's books so children can connect through stories and learn about their legacy.
Parent as creator/user
For parents of 3-8-year-old children who struggle to tell them stories about family heritage (members who passed away, family background such as adoption), our venture Kinity will provide an easy-to-use tool to create personalized picture books so children can learn about family heritage through stories.
Parent as user/reader
For parents of 3-8-year-old children who want their children to connect to family members, our venture Kinity will provide personalized picture books based on family stories and illustrations to read out to their children in the bedtime routine to integrate it into day-to-day life easily.
Child as user
For 3-8 children unaware of family stories, our venture, Kinity, will help them connect to family members and create a sense of belonging and identity through personalized family picture books.

Is there a similar idea to be found?:
Story worth in the US provides a solution to preserve the memories of the older generation. Subscribers receive weekly questions about their lives to answer. People get the responses in a bound book at the end of the one-year subscription.
Whilst Storyworth receives great reviews on Trustpilot, some customers are struggling with using the tech, and it takes a year to receive the bound book and the price of the subscription. Most importantly, people who struggle with storytelling find it difficult to use. Also, it does not provide illustrations, nor is it in a child-friendly format to appeal to young children.
Why you think there is a demand for your idea?:
Doing a market survey to test the initial idea and assumptions 92.6% said they would like to use such a tool to share family stories with children.
More market research and user testing is necessary to understand the demand for the idea.
Who would be the ideal customers?:
Core customers are parents with a migrational background as they instinctively connect with the idea. Especially when a dear family member passes away, there is a strong desire to capture their stories and share them with children.
What ideas do you have to reach these customers?:
As there are many potential customers and groups that may be interested in using the idea, my idea to test the MVP with different audiences is to go to Richmond in London and introduce it to different audiences, such as the local library users, to target various age groups who are interested in books and stories. Approaching nurseries and primary schools to showcase the product at parent evenings or hosting parent evening events and going to specific meetups where target customers go.
How far have you developed this idea?:
I'm currently building an MVP with my partner who can implement the technical requirements.
What – if any – feedback have you had for this idea so far?:
Most people strongly connect with the idea and immediately think about the person they would like to share stories about.
What supporting material – if any - would you like to add to your proposal?:
none yet.
