I am a big fan of chili chutney – can you provide more detail on ingredients, packaging, shipping and marketing? Thanks.

The good news is that the supermarkets have programmes for bringing small suppliers onboard, and they’re prepared to sell relatively small volumes locally (so you don’t have to start with a vast order for every Sainsbury in the country).

It’s worth having a look at these programmes – for example here’s what Waitrose are looking for: https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/content/about-us/company-information/regional-suppliers

I suspect they wouldn’t be interested at the ideas stage – they’d probably want you to have an established small business. You’ll doubtless have read the story of Reggae Reggae Sauce – that had already sold 4,000 bottles at the Notting Hill Carnival before Levi Root’s appearance on Dragons’ Den (and even then he needed to stretch the truth about his order book!)

(A thought, by the way: be careful you don’t get into an argument over “Rustic Roots”, since it sounds rather like Levi Roots.)

As you say there are many products like this out there how will you promote yours differently?
